We have all been there, making New Year’s resolutions with every intent of sticking to them. Statistics from Forbes.com show that only 8% of people maintain or achieve their New Year’s resolutions, so don’t feel too bad about skipping the salad on your lunch break. However, there are some New Year’s resolutions that should not be ignored, many of these resolutions revolve around money. Perhaps, like me, you want to open an RESP for your little one(s) or start contributing more to a savings account such as an RRSP.
While these financial resolutions are fantastic, ask yourself this, if I were to suddenly pass away this year, will my family be left with a large mortgage or mountain of debt because I do not have insurance? Will my spouse be able to continue to pay for the mortgage and living expenses on her salary alone? Will my children’s health expenses be covered if they are diagnosed with a critical illness? If you answered no to one, or all of these questions, it may be time to talk to Broker Plus Insurance. We offer a wide range of products to protect you and your family from almost any situation. Some of the products we’re pleased to offer include Disability with optional Job Loss, Term Life, Child Polices, Critical Illness and No Medical coverage (for client’s who have been declined for insurance in the past due to health reasons). Our products were designed with one thing in mind, you, and more so, how the products can protect you should something happen. After 17 years in the mortgage business, we’ve seen the positive results of having these products in place before it’s too late. The smartest thing you can do for your family is to ensure that if something happens, they and yourself are protected with some type of insurance. Chances are, you have had to answer questions like these at one time or another. If not, you will most likely need to answer these questions if you decide to apply for insurance. Two common examples of these questions are have you ever been tested for cancer and have you ever been tested or treated for high blood pressure. These statements are cryptic and perplexing for many people; as insurance companies often fail to elaborate on what the question truly means.
As an example, have you ever been tested for cancer is one of the most ambiguous questions a health exam can ask you. If you have ever had a mammogram or a prostate exam you have, in fact, been tested for cancer and need to answer "yes" to this question. Problems can emerge when you answer "no" to this question. If in the future you are to get breast cancer or colon cancer, the insurance company can make it harder for you to submit an approved claim. The second question, have you ever been tested for high blood pressure, is another question many people unknowingly answer “no” to. Most of us have had our blood pressure tested at the doctor’s office by a manual blood pressure monitor. However, many of us do not see this test as a blood pressure test and will answer "no." The unfortunate thing about answering "no" to this question is should you experience blood pressure issues in the future, your doctor will note that they were tested for high blood pressure at some point in your medical history. With the examples given above, it is easy to understand how confounding these questions can be. One of the ways insurance companies can offer cheaper premiums to their clients is to lower their risk. They accomplish this by limiting the number of people who qualify for coverage. Often, this is executed in the wording of the application, as noted above. If you are not knowledgeable about this loophole, you can fall into a scenario where you may not be covered, should the unthinkable happen. At Broker Plus Insurance we offer mortgage insurance policies that have health questions only pertaining to the last 24 months. Our only “have you ever” question is regarding if you have ever been refused or charged higher premiums. To ensure you are qualified, we will also send you an additional health questionnaire to help catch discrepancies or missed answers. If you are interested in term life insurance, you will go through a full screening by the insurance company. This enables us to know immediately if you do not qualify for standard insurance so that we can offer you one of our products where no medical is required. Educating yourself about these pitfalls is one of the smartest things you can do before answering these health questions. Image obtained from iStock by Getty Images http://mrg.bz/uBZ6GK The heading above is something that many young adults are naïve towards. In today’s society, no one, especially young adults, can afford to get sick. If recent statistics are to be believed, one can deduce that 33% of Canadians do not have life insurance. No one likes to think about the inevitable, however; it is the inevitable that must be taken into consideration when thinking about our future. For many of these young adults, insurance is something they may not consider until it is too late for them to utilize a policy effectively.
When young adults finish school, the last thing they want to think about is taking out a life insurance policy. As many young adults are buying homes much later than when their parents, they don’t see the need for insurance. A common misconception among young adults is that insurance is only required once they have equity. . In fact, securing a young adult’s insurability while they are young and healthy is the smartest thing they can do. At Broker Plus Insurance, no mortgage is required to qualify for our Term insurance products. Even if you don’t qualify for a mortgage or have young adult children who are just starting out, we can help place them with an affordable policy. This is a great way to secure the insurability and financial stability of your future! Our Term Life insurance has many benefits, the most important being they choose their beneficiary, should something happen to them. We provide non-declining life insurance coverage for a specified period of time. The terms offered are 10, 20, 30 and 100 years; we can also offer you coverage from $25,000 up to 5 million. This type of insurance is also renewable and convertible and has six optional riders available. Critical Illness is another product that is smart to put in place when clients are at a lower risk and in a cheaper age bracket! These optional riders are:
